The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdul Ghani Baradar called on the international community to shift from sanctions to engagement with Afghanistan and adopt practical political and economic approaches.
Baradar made the remarks on Monday during a ceremony marking the launch of construction of a cement production plant in the Yatim Taq area of Jawzjan Province.
He said sanctions would neither prevent investment in Afghanistan nor weaken the country’s economy, emphasizing the need for constructive interaction.
Baradar also said the Taliban administration is working to boost domestic production of essential goods in order to reduce reliance on imports.
He added that strengthening local production would be a key step toward economic growth, increased employment, and greater self-sufficiency.
