The Kabul Tribune (KT) — António Guterres has called for the protection of navigational rights and freedoms in the Strait of Hormuz, urging all parties to ensure safe and unimpeded passage for vessels.
In a statement posted on X, Guterres appealed for the
waterway to remain open, emphasizing the importance of uninterrupted global
trade.
“Open the Strait. Let ships pass. No tolls. No
discrimination. Let trade resume. Let the global economy breathe,” he said.
The UN chief stressed that secure and unhindered navigation
through the strategic maritime corridor is both an economic and humanitarian
necessity.
His remarks come amid heightened tensions in the region,
where concerns over potential disruptions to shipping routes have raised alarms
about global energy supplies and economic stability.
