The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan and Uzbekistan’s private sectors have signed 16 commercial agreements worth approximately $16 million, marking a new step in expanding bilateral trade ties between the two countries.
The Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment said in a
statement on Wednesday that the deals were concluded during a joint business
conference held in Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya province, as part of a visit by an
80-member Afghan delegation.
The agreements, signed on 29 April 2026, cover a range of
sectors including dried fruits, wheat, food products, clothing, and
pharmaceuticals, according to the chamber.
Officials said the deals were reached between private sector
representatives from both countries during discussions aimed at strengthening
economic cooperation and expanding trade opportunities.
During the conference, Surkhandarya governor Ulugbek Qosimov
expressed Uzbekistan’s readiness to further expand economic cooperation with
Afghanistan. He also noted that Uzbekistan is prepared to import coal and
cotton from Afghanistan as part of efforts to deepen bilateral trade relations.
The development comes as both countries continue to seek
closer economic engagement, particularly in transport, energy, and agricultural
trade sectors.
