The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Construction has begun on two electricity projects in northern Afghanistan’s Jawzjan province with a combined value of nearly 1.9 billion Afghanis, aimed at expanding power access in underserved districts.

The Taliban-run Ministry of Water and Energy said the projects were launched on 29 April 2026 and are designed to deliver and transmit electricity to Qosh Tepa and Darzab districts.

According to the ministry, the projects include the construction of two substations, each with a capacity of 25 MVA, to support electricity distribution in the targeted areas.

Officials said the initiatives are expected to create employment opportunities for around 300 people during the construction phase.

The ministry added that the projects will be implemented by private companies and are scheduled for completion within three years.

Once finalized, the projects are expected to provide electricity access to approximately 82,200 residents in Qosh Tepa and Darzab districts, improving local infrastructure and living conditions.
