The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid on Thursday rejected comments by Russian Defense Minister Andrei Belousov, calling his remarks about Afghanistan’s security situation “baseless.”
Mujahid was responding to statements by Belousov, who said Afghanistan remains unstable and serves as a source of terrorist threats across its borders.
In an audio message, Mujahid said Afghanistan does not pose a threat to any country and that no individual or group is allowed to carry out unauthorized activities or threaten other nations from Afghan territory.
He added that the Taliban maintain full control over the country and do not permit illegal or independent operations.
Belousov made the remarks on Tuesday during a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization held in Bishkek, where he said Afghanistan remains a source of terrorist activity and that security threats originate from its borders.
The comments reflect ongoing regional concerns about security in Afghanistan, as neighboring countries continue to assess potential risks linked to militant groups operating in the region since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
