The Kabul Tribune (KT) — A total of 879 Afghan migrant families returned to Afghanistan in a single day as deportations from Iran and Pakistan continue, Taliban authorities said.
The Taliban’s High Commission for Addressing Migrants’
Problems said the returns took place on May 3, 2026, with a total of 4,617 individuals
entering the country through various border crossings.
According to the commission, 574 of the returning families
have been transported to their home provinces, while 868 families received cash
assistance upon arrival.
The returns come amid a sharp increase in forced
deportations of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan in recent months.
Authorities in both countries have repeatedly stressed that undocumented
Afghans will be sent back.
Earlier, the UNHCR said around 170,000 Afghans had returned
from Pakistan in recent months alone.
The agency estimates that nearly 2 million Afghan migrants
are still residing in Pakistan.
Taliban officials say they have so far managed the return
process in an organized manner.
