The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pakistan said it has facilitated the transfer of Iranian crew members as part of a confidence-building measure supported by the United States.
In a statement issued on May 4, 2026, in Islamabad, the
ministry said 22 crew members who had been held aboard the seized Iranian
container ship “MV Touska” were evacuated to Pakistan.
The individuals were flown to Pakistan overnight and are
expected to be handed over to Iranian authorities, the statement said.
It added that the vessel will be moved back to Pakistani
territorial waters after necessary repairs before being returned to its
original owners.
According to the ministry, the process is being coordinated
with support from both Iranian and U.S. sides.
Pakistan welcomed the move as a confidence-building step and
said it would continue to facilitate dialogue and diplomacy while pursuing
mediation efforts aimed at regional peace and security.
