The Kabul Tribune (KT) — UNDP Afghanistan said a solar energy project has improved learning conditions at a girls’ school in Kunar province, providing essential services for around 500 students.
In a statement posted on X, the agency said Mangwal Girls
School is now equipped with an 8.8-kilowatt solar power system and battery
storage, enabling access to lighting, fans, water supply, and a restored
science laboratory.
The initiative is part of a broader program titled “Scaling
up of Energy Services for Essential and Humanitarian Needs in Afghanistan”
(SESEHA), which aims to expand access to clean and reliable energy across
schools and health facilities.
According to the United Nations Development Programme, the
project has supported hundreds of institutions nationwide, helping improve
education and healthcare services through sustainable energy solutions.
The agency said the initiative reflects efforts to address
energy shortages while enhancing basic services, particularly in underserved
areas, and highlights the role of renewable energy in supporting community
resilience.
