The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan is considering sending workers to Russia amid a reported labor shortage, according to a report by UNN citing Russian media.
Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s minister of commerce and
industry, made the remarks in comments reported by Russian media, saying there
is mutual interest in expanding cooperation between Afghanistan and Russia,
including in the labor sector, though language barriers remain a key challenge.
The development comes as Russian officials report an
unprecedented shortage of workers, partly linked to the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Elvira Nabiullina said in late April that Russia’s labor market has not
experienced such a shortage in modern history.
Meanwhile, the Russian government has submitted a draft law
to the State Duma proposing a sharp increase in migration-related state fees.
The bill also includes incentives for those who sign contracts with the Russian
Ministry of Defense during the war in Ukraine.
Despite interest from both sides, language differences
remain the primary obstacle to implementing any labor transfer arrangement.
