The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Precious and semi-precious stones worth more than 52.6 million Afghanis have been sold from mines in Nuristan province, according to Taliban officials.
The Taliban’s Department of Mines and Petroleum in Nuristan said the stones were extracted from the Mawi area of Du Ab district and sold to domestic traders through a public bidding process.
Officials said the auction included stones such as beryl, kunzite, and morganite. Of the total revenue, approximately 5.2 million Afghanis were allocated to the Taliban administration, while the remaining amount was distributed among miners.
The department added that in the previous week, around 242 kilograms of beryl stones were also sold through a similar bidding process for nearly 25 million Afghanis.
Nuristan is considered one of Afghanistan’s resource-rich provinces, particularly known for its deposits of precious and semi-precious stones.
