The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Construction has begun on a $200 million iron smelting plant in Logar, the Taliban’s media office in the province said.
According to a statement, the project was launched by the private sector in the Mohammad Agha industrial park of the province.
The foundation ceremony was held on Sunday, May 18, 2026, with the participation of local Taliban officials. The project is expected to be completed within four years.
Officials from the company said the plant is expected to create around 1,000 direct jobs and nearly 10,000 indirect employment opportunities.
Taliban authorities said such projects could play a significant role in reducing unemployment, boosting domestic production and decreasing reliance on imports.
