The Kabul Tribune (KT) — A total of 79 Afghan citizens released from Pakistani prisons have returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham border crossing, the Taliban Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said.

The ministry said in a statement on its official X account that the individuals were released from detention facilities in Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan after completing their sentences or resolving legal issues.

Officials from the Department of Refugees and Repatriation in Nangarhar said the group included both families and individuals.

According to the ministry, the detainees had been arrested in Pakistan due to issues related to residency documentation and had spent varying periods in detention.

The ministry added that after registration and receiving initial assistance, the returnees were transported to their respective home provinces.

The statement said the ministry welcomed their release and return and assured continued coordination with relevant institutions to address their needs and provide necessary support.

It added that similar releases have taken place in the past, with hundreds of Afghan detainees previously freed and returned from Pakistani prisons.
