The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Emergency midwifery care saved the lives of a mother and her newborn in a remote district of Afghanistan, highlighting the critical need for accessible maternal health services, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) said.
The woman was admitted in critical condition to a family
health facility in Dara-e-Boom district, suffering from severe bleeding, low
blood pressure and complications due to a breech pregnancy.
A midwife provided urgent care, stabilizing the patient and
successfully delivering the baby.
Both mother and child were discharged in stable condition
after receiving postnatal care.
UNFPA said limited access to healthcare in remote areas
continues to put women at risk, stressing that timely medical intervention and
skilled birth attendants are key to reducing maternal and newborn deaths.
