The Kabul Tribune (KT) — An Uzbek agricultural company has expressed interest in exporting up to 2,000 metric tons of Afghan fruit annually to regional and international markets, according to Taliban officials.

Murad Qudratov, head of the Uzbek “Prime” agricultural company, made the announcement during a meeting in Kabul with Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban minister of industry and commerce.

According to a statement from the ministry, the company plans to export Afghan fruits including pomegranates, apples, cherries, apricots and plums to Uzbekistan, Russia and European countries.

Qudratov said the company is ready to facilitate large-scale exports from Afghanistan, while Azizi assured full cooperation and support to facilitate the process.

Officials say Afghanistan has seen a rise in agricultural exports in recent years as authorities seek to expand access to regional and global markets for domestic products.
