The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said 52% of construction work on the TAPI Pipeline project has been completed in Afghanistan’s Herat section.
Ministry spokesperson Homaioon Afghan said that so far 80 kilometers of pipeline have been laid, including 36.3 kilometers installed underground, while preparations are underway to bury an additional 51 kilometers.
He added that 126 kilometers of land have been prepared for pipeline installation, and 108 kilometers of road have been constructed to support the project’s implementation.
According to Afghan, another 72.3 kilometers of pipeline have been transported from Turkmenistan to the project site.
Officials from Turkmenistan have reportedly assured that 130 kilometers of the pipeline in Herat will be completed by the end of 2026, after which work will begin in other areas of Afghanistan.
The TAPI project — linking Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India — is considered one of the region’s key economic initiatives, aimed at energy transfer, strengthening regional cooperation, and increasing Afghanistan’s transit revenues.
