The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Nearly 3,448 Afghan migrants returned to the country on Tuesday from neighbouring states through various border crossings, the Taliban-run Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Issues said.
According to the commission’s report, the returnees comprised 639 families who entered Afghanistan through multiple routes.
Deputy Taliban spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said on X that 539 families returned via the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar, 54 families through Spin Boldak in Kandahar, 30 families via the Silk Bridge in Nimroz, and 16 families through the Islam Qala crossing in Herat.
The commission added that 583 families were transported to their respective home provinces after arrival, while 576 families received financial assistance.
Officials also said hundreds of families were provided SIM cards, along with health services, food assistance, and public awareness support.
The developments come amid a sharp rise in returns of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan in recent years, with both governments continuing efforts to repatriate undocumented Afghans.
The International Organization for Migration has reported that nearly 90,000 people have returned to Afghanistan over the past two weeks.
