The Kabul Tribune (KT) — A total of 724 Afghan migrant families returned to the country on Wednesday from Iran and Pakistan through various border crossings, the Taliban-run Commission for Addressing Migrants’ Issues said.

According to the commission, the returnees included 3,693 individuals who entered Afghanistan via multiple routes.

Deputy Taliban spokesman Hamdullah Fitrat said on X that 657 families crossed through Torkham in Nangarhar, 27 families via Spin Boldak in Kandahar, 21 families through the Silk Bridge in Nimroz, and 19 families via Islam Qala in Herat.

The commission added that 662 families were transported to their home provinces, while 695 families received cash assistance.

Officials also said hundreds of families were provided SIM cards, along with healthcare, food aid, and public awareness services.

The returns come amid an ongoing increase in the deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan, with both countries continuing efforts to send undocumented Afghans back.

The International Organization for Migration has reported that nearly 90,000 people have returned to Afghanistan over the past two weeks.
