The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan has welcomed the one-year extension of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), emphasizing the organization’s vital role in supporting the Afghan people.
In a statement, Afghanistan highlighted growing concerns
over the deteriorating human rights situation, particularly the suppression of
women and girls, arbitrary detentions, and increasing restrictions on
fundamental freedoms.
The statement also welcomed the United Nations Security
Council’s emphasis on human rights, especially the rights of women and girls,
and stressed the need to revoke policies that contradict international
commitments, Islamic values, and the traditions of the Afghan people.
It underscored that lasting peace and stability can only be
achieved through an inclusive, legitimate, representative, and accountable
political system.
Afghanistan expressed support for the implementation of UN
Security Council Resolution 2721 and called for advancing a credible political
process led by the Afghan people.
The statement further emphasized the importance of continued
humanitarian assistance, counterterrorism efforts, and regional cooperation,
alongside support for human rights.
It also urged the international community to maintain a
united and principled approach toward Afghanistan.
Concluding the statement, it stressed that the people of
Afghanistan deserve dignity, justice, rights, and a future based on hope—not
fear and repression.
