The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Nearly 500 Afghan detainees have been released from prisons in Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan, the Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation said.
According to a statement, 485 Afghan nationals were recently freed after being detained due to issues related to residency documents. They had spent varying periods in Pakistani prisons.
The ministry said that 475 individuals returned through the Torkham border crossing, while 28 others entered via Spin Boldak. After receiving initial assistance, they were transported to their home areas.
The Taliban called on international organizations to continue supporting Afghan migrants, facilitate safe returns, and help ensure a humane environment for returnees.
In recent years, reports of arrests and mistreatment of Afghan migrants in Pakistan have increased, with hundreds of detainees periodically released and repatriated.
Meanwhile, the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from neighboring countries has accelerated. Officials said that more than 3,500 Afghans were expelled from Pakistan on Wednesday alone.
