The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban-run Commission for Refugee Affairs said 2,719 Afghan migrants returned to the country from Iran and Pakistan through various border crossings on Saturday.
According to the commission, the returnees comprised 517 families who entered Afghanistan via different routes.
Deputy Taliban spokesperson Hamdullah Fitrat wrote on X that 388 families returned through the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar province, 103 families through Spin Boldak in Kandahar province, and 26 families via the Silk Bridge crossing in Nimroz province.
The report added that 783 families were transported to their home provinces, while 592 families received cash assistance.
The commission also said hundreds of families were provided SIM cards, along with health, food, and public awareness services. Additionally, 1,001 families were allocated residential plots on Monday.
The report comes amid a significant rise in the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Iran and Pakistan in recent years, as authorities in both countries have intensified efforts to return undocumented Afghans to Afghanistan.
