The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Monthly cargo transport on the Herat-Khaf railway is expected to reach 150,000 metric tons in the coming months, following talks between Taliban officials and Iranian counterparts, according to a statement.

Taliban Herat Governor Noor Ahmad Islamjar met with Mostafa Rezaei, head of Iran’s railway development consortium, to discuss expanding transport capacity along the route.

During the meeting, Rezaei pledged that freight volumes on the railway would increase to 150,000 metric tons per month in the near future.

Islamjar said construction of the Rabat station along the railway is nearing completion and is expected to become operational soon.

He also assured full cooperation from the Taliban authorities to support the expansion and strengthening of the railway line.

The Herat-Khaf railway is a key trade corridor between Afghanistan and Iran, and its expansion is expected to improve the movement of goods and boost bilateral trade between the two countries.
