The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The United Nations has renewed its call for ensuring access to education, employment and diplomatic roles for women and girls in Afghanistan, marking the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, Reuters reported.

The U.N. Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said on Wednesday that women have the right to learn, lead and participate in all sectors of society, particularly in diplomacy and public service.

In a statement, UNAMA emphasized that women diplomats play vital roles not only in international affairs but also as leaders, peacebuilders and advocates for equality, contributing to a more just and stable world.

The remarks came on June 24, 2026, in observance of the global day highlighting women’s role in diplomacy.

The Taliban have not yet commented on the statement.

The United Nations and other international organizations have repeatedly called for the restoration of women’s rights in Afghanistan, particularly access to education and employment, which remain key concerns for the international community.
