The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan’s state-owned power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), said the 500-kilovolt electricity transmission project from Turkmenistan is progressing significantly and remains one of the country’s most important energy infrastructure developments.

According to the Taliban-controlled utility, the first phase of the project has been completed, while the second phase—stretching from Sheberghan to Dasht-e Alwan in Baghlan province—has reached 90.8% completion.

DABS said that out of a total 305 kilometers of transmission line, 202 kilometers have already been completed.

The company added that 747 out of 775 transmission towers have been installed and assembled, while foundation work for 772 structures has also been completed.

The utility further stated that the third phase of the project, extending from Dasht-e Alwan in Baghlan to the Arghandi substation in Kabul, is currently underway and is being implemented by the Ministry of Water and Energy.

DABS said that once completed, the project is expected to significantly improve Afghanistan’s electricity sector and provide more stable and reliable power supply to several provinces, including Kabul.

Officials say the project is a key step toward reducing Afghanistan’s dependence on unstable electricity imports and strengthening national energy infrastructure.
