The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Russia has called on Afghanistan and Pakistan to end their armed confrontation and resolve their differences through political and diplomatic means, Russia's TASS news agency reported, citing the Russian Foreign Ministry.
In a statement, the ministry said Moscow is concerned about
the ongoing military confrontation between the two neighboring countries,
noting that civilians have borne the brunt of the violence.
According to the report, the ministry referred to Pakistan's
airstrikes on Afghanistan's eastern provinces of Paktia, Paktika and Kunar on
the night of June 29, describing them as the latest tragic episode in the
conflict.
The statement also cited the United Nations as saying the
strikes killed 28 people, including children, and injured about 50 others.
"The Russian side calls on Islamabad and Kabul to end
the armed conflict and resolve disputed issues through political and diplomatic
means," the ministry said, according to TASS.
Tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have escalated in
recent weeks following cross-border military exchanges and competing security
claims. The latest violence has prompted international calls for restraint,
with the United Nations, the European Union and several countries urging both
sides to protect civilians and pursue dialogue to prevent further escalation.
