The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Nasir Ahmad Faiq, Afghanistan's acting permanent representative to the United Nations, said the country's natural resources and mining revenues should be managed transparently and used to serve the interests of the Afghan people.
Faiq said the key question is how revenue generated from Afghanistan's mineral wealth is being spent and whether there is transparency, accountability, and independent oversight of the country's mining income.
He also said Afghanistan continues to rely heavily on international humanitarian assistance while millions of Afghans—including women, young people, and persons with disabilities—face poverty, unemployment, and growing uncertainty.
According to Faiq, many Afghans have been forced to leave the country because of current conditions, while criminal activity, including armed robberies, kidnappings, and unexplained killings, has also increased.
Faiq stressed that Afghanistan's natural resources belong to all its people and should be managed in a way that serves the country's national interests rather than the interests of any individual or group.
