The Kabul Tribune (KT) — António Guterres has expressed deep concern over the escalating military confrontation in the Gulf, calling on Iran and the United States to immediately halt hostilities and return to diplomatic negotiations.

In a statement posted on X, Guterres said he was deeply concerned by the renewed military clashes, including Iran's attacks on ships in the Strait of Hormuz, U.S. strikes on Iran, and Iranian attacks on targets in neighboring countries.

The UN chief warned that all attacks must stop, saying a return to full-scale conflict would have catastrophic consequences for the people of the region, international peace and security, and the global economy.

Guterres urged Iran and the United States to urgently resume negotiations and resolve their outstanding differences through diplomacy rather than military action.
