The Kabul Tribune (KT) — TRT has reported that former U.S. President Joe Biden has announced the publication of a new memoir that will reflect on his presidency, including the U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan, the war in Ukraine and other major decisions made during his time in office.

Biden, 83, said his memoir, titled "Promise Me, America," will examine the challenges the United States faced, the decisions he made as president and the reasons behind those decisions.

According to TRT, Biden said he has spent much of his time since leaving office with his family while undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of prostate cancer that was diagnosed in May 2025 and later found to have spread to his bones. He said his treatment has been progressing well.

The report said Biden identified the 2021 U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan as one of the defining events of his presidency. The withdrawal ended nearly two decades of U.S. military involvement in Afghanistan and was followed by the Taliban's return to power after the collapse of the former Afghan government.

TRT reported that the memoir will also discuss the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol, the war in Ukraine, Biden's decision to seek re-election in 2024 and his later decision to withdraw from the presidential race.

According to TRT, the book is scheduled to be published on Nov. 17, 2026, several weeks after the U.S. midterm elections.

The report also noted that Biden's announcement did not mention Israel's military campaign in Gaza or the role of the United States during the conflict. TRT said internal reviews by senior Democratic officials concluded that the Biden administration's approach to Gaza negatively affected the Democratic Party's performance in the 2024 presidential election.

TRT added that former Vice President Kamala Harris, who became the Democratic presidential nominee after Biden withdrew from the race, has also published a memoir and has said the Biden administration should have done more publicly to criticize Israel's handling of the Gaza conflict.
