The Kabul Tribune (KT) — A total of 1,099 Afghan prisoners were released from prisons in Pakistan and returned to Afghanistan during the past week, according to the Taliban's Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation.
The ministry said in a statement that the detainees had been arrested for lacking legal documents to remain in Pakistan. After their release, they returned to Afghanistan through the Spin Boldak–Chaman and Torkham border crossings before being transferred to their home provinces.
The ministry added that 1,416 Afghan prisoners were also released from Pakistani prisons and returned to Afghanistan during the previous week.
Pakistan has accelerated the arrest, deportation and repatriation of Afghan migrants in recent months, with hundreds of Afghans returning to Afghanistan from the neighboring country each day.
