The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Afghanistan and Uzbekistan have signed 22 trade agreements worth nearly $200 million, marking a significant step toward expanding bilateral economic and commercial cooperation, the Taliban's Ministry of Industry and Commerce said.

According to the ministry, the agreements were signed during the Afghanistan-Uzbekistan Business Forum hosted in Kabul on Monday, July 27, 2026. The event was attended by Taliban Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi, senior Afghan officials, Uzbek Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, and representatives from the private sectors of both countries.

Speaking at the forum, Azizi said Afghanistan had already exported 10,000 metric tons of cotton to Uzbekistan on a trial basis, adding that Tashkent now intends to import an additional 100,000 metric tons of Afghan cotton.

He also expressed hope that bilateral trade between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan would reach $5 billion, stressing that the target could be achieved through closer economic and commercial cooperation.

"This goal can be achieved if we work together to expand economic and trade cooperation," Azizi said.

Khodjaev reaffirmed Uzbekistan's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Afghanistan, saying the country offers significant economic opportunities that could play an important role in deepening ties between Kabul and Tashkent.
