The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Two people were killed and two others injured after unidentified gunmen opened fire on four individuals in the city of Zaranj, the capital of Nimroz province, Taliban police said on Tuesday.
According to the Taliban police command in Nimroz, the attack took place in the Shast Road area of Zaranj on Monday, July 27. Among those killed were tribal elder Abdul Khaliq Noorzai and his nephew. Two other people were wounded in the shooting.
The Taliban said an investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible.
In recent months, reports of targeted killings and armed attacks carried out by unidentified gunmen have emerged from several provinces across Afghanistan, particularly in Nimroz.
Although the Taliban say they have maintained security across the country, deadly shootings and other violent incidents continue to be reported sporadically.
