The Kabul Tribune (KT) — One child was killed and another injured after an unexploded ordnance detonated in eastern Afghanistan's Nangarhar province, Taliban authorities said on Tuesday.
According to the Taliban police command in Nangarhar, the explosion occurred in the Surkh Dewal area of Jalalabad, the provincial capital.
The Taliban said the incident happened when an 11-year-old boy identified as Bakhtiar found an unexploded shell while grazing livestock and struck it, triggering the blast.
The injured child was taken to hospital for treatment, and Taliban officials said the child's condition is stable.
Afghanistan remains contaminated with landmines and unexploded ordnance left behind by decades of conflict. Every year, dozens of civilians—particularly children—are killed or injured in explosions involving unexploded munitions across the country.
