The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said its Chief of Mission has visited operations at the Torkham border crossing to review assistance being provided to Afghan returnees arriving from Pakistan.
According to the organization, the visit focused on
immediate post-arrival assistance for returning Afghans, including access to
essential services upon their arrival in Afghanistan.
As the lead agency of the Border Consortium, IOM said it is
coordinating border response efforts with humanitarian partners to ensure a
timely, coordinated and protection-centered response for returning Afghan
migrants.
The organization said its operations include facilitating
access to essential services and referring returnees to additional humanitarian
assistance where needed.
The visit comes as Afghanistan continues to receive large
numbers of returning migrants from neighboring countries, increasing demand for
humanitarian support, protection services and reintegration assistance at major
border crossings such as Torkham.
