The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The United States launched a new round of strikes on targets in Iran on Wednesday after President Donald Trump vowed retaliation for Iranian attacks on U.S. troops in the Middle East, according to the U.S. military.
The latest escalation came as a U.S.-owned floating storage
tanker was struck by a drone at an Egyptian port on the Mediterranean Sea,
British maritime security firm Ambrey said. The attack further broadened the
conflict, which has now continued for five months.
Earlier on Wednesday, U.S. and Saudi forces carried out
strikes against Iran-aligned groups in eastern Iraq. Iran, meanwhile, said it
had launched missiles targeting U.S. troops stationed in Jordan.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said the United States
would respond forcefully to Iran's actions.
"So it's our turn," Trump told reporters, adding
that the United States would "hit them very hard." He also reiterated
that Washington remained committed to pursuing a diplomatic agreement with
Tehran despite the military escalation.
Trump also commented on an exclusive Reuters report
suggesting that Iran may be receiving Chinese-made missile systems, though he
did not provide additional details.
