The Kabul Tribune (KT) — The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum said Monday that it had signed a five-year contract with Nabi Afghan Mining and Processing Company to extract and process barite from a mine in Parwan province.

According to the ministry, the contract was signed Aug. 3, 2026, between Taliban Mines and Petroleum Minister Hedayatullah Badri and a representative of the company.

The ministry said 106 million Afghanis ($1.6 million) will be invested in the project. The company will also pay the Taliban 850 Afghanis in royalties for each metric ton of barite extracted, according to the contract.

Under the agreement, the project is expected to create employment opportunities for about 300 people. A processing plant will also be established inside Afghanistan to process the barite, the ministry said.
