The Kabul Tribune (KT) — One person was killed and another was injured in an explosion during mining operations in Pachigram area of Bargi Matal district in eastern Nuristan province, a Taliban police spokesman said Saturday.
Mohammad Hassan Saqib, spokesman for the Nuristan police command, said the incident occurred during mining activities. He did not provide further details on the circumstances of the explosion or what caused it.
The victim was identified as Ghulam Mohammad, son of Habib Khan and a resident of Shamsir village in Nari district of neighboring Kunar province, according to preliminary information.
The condition of the injured person was not immediately known.
Mining-related accidents, including explosions, are periodically reported in Afghanistan, particularly during unregulated or unsafe extraction activities. Lack of adequate safety measures is considered a major factor contributing to such incidents.
