The Kabul Tribune (KT) — Pakistani military aircraft carried out airstrikes in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces of Kunar and Paktika early Monday, according to Taliban officials and local sources cited by TOLOnews.
Najibullah Hanif, Kunar’s director of information and culture, said that an airstrike struck an area of Nurgal district at about 3 a.m., killing three people and injuring several others. He said a house was completely destroyed in the attack.
Local sources also were quoted by TOLOnews that Pakistani fighter jets carried out two airstrikes at about 4 a.m. in the Rukha and Torkanḍi areas of Barmal district in Paktika province.
According to the sources, one strike hit an empty house and another struck an old shop. No casualties had been reported from those strikes at the time of the report.
The reported strikes come amid heightened tensions between Taliban and Pakistan. Taliban authorities have previously accused Pakistan’s military of carrying out airstrikes inside Afghanistan, while Pakistan has cited security concerns related to militant groups operating along the border.
