The Kabul Tribune (KT) — European lawmaker Hannah Neumann has accused the Taliban of arresting women over alleged dress code violations and using force against protesters demanding their release.
In a post on X, Neumann claimed that women were detained by Taliban authorities and that demonstrators calling for their freedom were met with what she described as “brutal force.”
She further criticized European policies toward the Taliban, arguing that the group has not changed and should not be granted legitimacy without accountability. Neumann stressed that normalization of relations should depend on respect for human rights and warned against offering political incentives in the face of repression.
There has been no immediate response from Taliban officials regarding these claims.
The remarks come amid continued international concern over restrictions on women’s rights in Afghanistan, where Taliban authorities have imposed strict regulations affecting education, employment, and public life for women and girls since returning to power in 2021.
